Captains BBQ Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The BBQ is fantastic. The meat is tender and has a great smokey flavor. The mac and cheese was not the best I've had but the baked beans were pretty spectacular. They had a nice flavor, solid chunks of meat in them and just enough spice. The real star of the place though is the cheese cakes. As a BBQ place its about a 4 1/2 star. As a cheese cake place it's a 5 star. You could split this place in two and it would be two great restaurants.

Our first time at Capt's BBQ. Enjoyed our late lunch. Spent about $31 for the two of us. We each had the plate lunch. Wife had brisket & sausage I had the rib lunch. Came with two sides and ice tea. We will be back. On the weekend the place is very busy.

Without a doubt the best BBQ joint I've visited. I had the pulled pork w/ Mac & cheese and baked beans. The food was already delicious, then you add one of 4 sauces on the tables (I used sweet honey BBQ) and it took my pulled pork to another level. My fiancé had the St. Louis fall off the bone ribs. Cooked perfectly!!!! If your in the area, I recommend stopping here. Awesome place!!! Can't wait to come back to palm coast just to visit this little gem!!!!!

Wow what a great find! If your in Daytona and going to St Augustine for the day take A1A north and stop by Captains BBQ! Awesome pulled pork sandwich and a side only $8 with a great view on the water! If you have room gotta have the pumpkin cheese cake!!

This is by far the worst experience we had in dinning anywhere in Palm Coast. It's a Bait & Tackle Store disguised as a BBQ joint. The setting is pristine. Located at Bings Landing. Mala Compra,is a excavation site which is really interesting.Un like the Bait & Tackle Store. No one greets you to show what the procces is to even place an order. We found some menus and realized you order your food where you order your fishing supplies, ( Bait ). We were here so we ordered. They then call your name and you pick it up and go out side.Really,no joke ! You have to search for flat wear,or should I say " Plastic Wear ".If it weren't for the view this place would have been a total bust. Now ! The food was good, but way over priced. I don't get it,this is rated # 1 on yelp. REALLY... WOW, something is a little fishy here, Oh Yeh.. It's a Bait Shop.

This is a most for anyone who wants to experience real southern BBQ. I'm working my way through the menu so in no particular order. Ribs - I challenge you to find a better BBQ sauce, tangy sweet, so good Smoked turkey - Moist, flavorful and smoky Chicken - Can't say. They are always sold out when I get there. Pulled pork - so good One problem. These folks cook just so much food each night and once they run out, you are out of luck....go early.

By far the best Rueben sandwich I've ever had. The brisket was so tender and juicy, and the portion was enough for two meals! The cheese cake was amazing too. I can't wait to go back for more. The atmosphere was super casual, there are picnic tables outside, as well as a boat launch and a great view of the river.

Can't pass on the pulled pork tacos. Wife saw them and had to get them. I'm glad she saw them.

If I'm in Palm Coast and want BBQ, this is the place. The food is very good, the portions are large, the prices are fair, and the location is fantastic.

Why are you still reading reviews?! The multiple 5 star reviews weren't enough?! Go there now. Eat the delicious food and have a beer from their great selection. I usually get the brisket and smoked turkey with sides of mac-n-cheese and beet salad. DELICIOUS. Seriously go. Go now.

This place is in a great location. Bing's Landing is my favorite place to kayak. The BBQ is just OK. I am a bit of a BBQ snob and I feel I make better at home. This is a good place when I'm in the mood for some down home cooking and don't feel like bringing out the smoker.

Awesome. Simple. Delicious. BBQ. That is all to be said about Captains BBQ. The pork melted in your mouth, the ribs fell off the bone, and the amazing smoky flavor just brought it all together. Located in a small lot just across a park, this hidden gem is worth a visit when you find yourself in the area. They also have a nice selection of bottled beer (at a really cheap price!). The atmosphere is very casual (considering it's also a bait and tackle shop), but that doesn't affect the greatness of the food! Highly recommended for some delicious BBQ!

  • James H.

Amazing fall off the bone smoked St Louis ribs. Generous meat on the soft tacos. Baked beans with little bits of ribs were very good too. Nice service. May go back tomorrow!

Excellent BBQ! Had the pork sandwich and it was great. Big portion. The Carolina sauce and collard greens were some of the best I've had. I stopped in with my family on vacation at the beach and we were worried about it being a restaurant and bait shop :) but it was much cleaner than we expected. The service was super fast and staff was very friendly!

Currently visiting from ny and staying at a friends place in Flagler. I had found this place online when I was doing some trip research for bbq in the area. Prior to leaving ny for our vacation I had a few different people suggest this place to try - it was our first stop after a long morning of traveling. We we're so glad to have stopped. We got two2 meat combos to share so we could try a bunch of things. Everything was amazing ! We had ribs, pulled pork, brisket, turkey as meats and corm, chili, Mac and cheese and potatoe salad for sides - we left very full and happy in a "food coma"

When we saw this sweet spot we knew it would be the start of a wonderful relationship. The setting is so special and unique but the food holds up on it's own merit too. We did not have an opportunity to try much, but the pork sandwich was carefully crafted and really flavorful, and my husband loved his turkey sandwich and collards. The owner was warm, friendly and seems to care about the details of running a business... we can 't wait to go back and sit on the porch on a warm day!

  • Greg M.

The cole slaw was a little bland but the beef brisket and ribs were tender and delish! Several sauce choices at each table, I leaned toward hot and spicy. The baked beans were a lot different than someone from northern Maine might expect but once you adjust to the added black beans and such it was quite good. Would definitely go back if in town.

Excellent BBQ place! I'm not a big BBQ person but highly recommend this restaurant. Tried the pulled pork and I was amazed how savory, tender and juicy!! It was perfect!!! Clean place and quick service!

  • Art V.

Very good beef brisket and decent portion too. Really laid back setup. Counter service and pickup window. Screened porch overlooking river and it is a beautiful spot at sunset. Cornbread muffin was too heavy and wasn't worth finishing. Mac & cheese was lacking. Cucumber salad was good. Plenty of choices for beer too. Will go back for sure.

We visited here from Michigan and everything we heard about this place holds up to the quality and authentic taste. The ribs were amazing Pulled pork was one of the best I've ever had Smoked turkey is excellent and such great smoky taste and perfectly sliced Chicken was perfectly done and awesome flavor Chili seasonings were perfectly balanced and so good Cucumber salad was bland and could have used some salt/flavor Cornbread was just on a slightly sweeter side but the kids loved it

Saw the billboard which piqued my interest. Drove by and caught a glimpse of a good ole hangout shadowed in the trees with water glistening behind. Had to make hubby turn around and go back. Best pulled pork sandwich ever, tasty beet salad, hubby's Reuben was one for the record books and he bought a pint of the baked beans to take away. The variety of barbecue sauces were perfect for any taste. It's not fancy. It's just awesome!

  • Ashe M.

So many great things about this place. The ribs and the turkey sliders are some of the best I've had. Tried almost everything on the menu and really loved it all. Tons of beer choices and super friendly staff.

  • Jan H.

Really enjoyed our 1st of many visits. We had ribs, pulled pork & brisket. They were perfectly cooked. Also like the delicious fresh cole slaw, sweet honey BBQ sauce & creamy Mac & Cheese. Thought the beans were a little spicy, but still good. Not a fancy place, but a very nice, clean, friendly place with good sized portions.

Decided to try this after hearing about it from friends and reading the reviews on yelp. We ordered pulled pork tacos and brisket with mac and cheese and collared greens. It was tasty and we really liked it. I thought the portions were a little small compared to the price but overall, this is a place I want to return to and try again.

Just came in and got ribs with potato salad and mashed sweet potatos. Very good! The ribs had a ton of meat on them, which was awesome. Great customer service too- will definitely be comin back AND recommending to friends!

OMG. this place is AH=MAZING! we were staying in palm coast for the week and didn't find this place until the night we were leaving. such a bummer. to begin with, do not expect much from the looks of this place. it's a bbq joint/fish tackle shop. there's picnic tables outside and a large wrap around porch with tables as well a handful of tables inside. the place may turn you off just from the looks of it, but i implore you: give it a try and you won't be disappointed. our large group of 10 ordered a whole lot of food and each and every one of us licked out craft paper covered trays (they don't serve plates) clean. and i almost mean that literally. we ordered pretty much everything off the menu including the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and smoked turkey sandwich. as well all of the sides. the coleslaw and corn bread stood out as the best sides. the turkey sandwich was to die for, the ribs were spectacularly meaty, juicy and fall of the bone delicate. there were two different sauces to choose from to put on the ribs, one spicy, the other mild. but honestly, they didn't need any sauce because they were so flavorful on their own. the pulled pork was also a stand out. omg. it was goooood. and to top it all, the ny style cheesecake was rich, dense and super creamy. a perfect way to end the ridiculous amount of food we consumed in that meal. to top it off, the owner is a transplant from northern nj. so...i implore you people of florida or fellow travelors, please stop by this place and give it your business. you will thank me.

We stopped here on our way home from St Augustine. The food was just okay. We had the BBQ chicken, Pork, Beef and ribs. It all tasted packaged to us. My husband was disappointed more than me and he eats anything. The view and grounds are beautiful, but the food average. The ribs were hard and very formed. Seemed like out of a package. The best ribs out I think are Texas Roadhouse but again not Smoked. I find that many reviews from Florida are very high on so many restaurants but you cannot go by that. Not sure how many have experienced great home cooked meals as many younger people's taste buds have been conditioned on fast food. Really read thru the reviews and then try these places yourself. I like a place in Melbourne, Fl called Hog Wild. It is a dumpy little place but clean and home cooked BBQ. They make everything there as close to home-made as possible. I have never had a bad meal there. I like the smoked chicken half and I ask for one not too smoked and baked beans and slaw, Very good!

By far the BEST BBQ in Florida! I wish I lived closer! Love the whole place and everyone was so nice! Everything in here was delicious... From the ribs to the brisket and all the sides! Mac n cheese...a must! Oh and the corn bread...yum! We were only in town for 4 days, we found it on day one, and had it again before we left... the hardest part was trying to choose 2 sides to go with the meal - all are so good!!!

I was part of the group with Mike C. They did a great job feeding about 20-24 hungry lacrosse players and parents. Food was very good. Mike actually called ahead to let them know we were coming right from the tournament which is why they stayed open for us. Owner really appreciated the business and was attentive to everyone's order.

Was looking for a place to stop for lunch and break up our trip and did we find a winner. This is a unassuming woodsy place on the intercostal with more outdoor seating than indoor. The screened in porch is perfect for sitting at the counter and eating while looking out at the water and an occasional boat passing by. Oh, and seeing a manatee break the surface for breath and move on or the occasional fish jump to entertain us. The ribs were excellent, collard greens exactly to my liking and a delicious cream soda. The wife proclaimed that her pulled pork sandwich was the best she ever had. You place your order and wait for you name and then pick it up. Brown paper serves as your plate and silverware is plastic. But the food is great...and, if a little messy, there is a sink to wash your hands where you dump your tray and empty bottle. Boats will come in to clean their fish and trailer them to their next location. This is the one where they will stop to eat. So should you.

Decided to try as much as I could on my first visit. Had 3 ribs, 1/2lb. of brisket, link of kielbasa, and tried my wifes pulled pork. They were all excellent. Nice sauces on the table if you choose to use them. All the BBQ was good enough to stand on its on. For sides I went for the mac and cheese and collard greens. I also tried the Cole slaw. All three were very good. All around some of the best BBQ I've had. Can't wait to go back and try the smoked chicken and a side of beans. I highly recommend this place.

We looked tis place up on yelp while visiting Hammock Beach. The reviewers were right on. We pulled in and it is like a bait and tackle shop . Then the young man behind the counter hands us menus and we decide what to order. I ordered ribs and my wife had pulled pork and chicken. We then got a beer and a wine from the cooler and sat down on the aluminum tables and waited. They called our name and we were served on plastic trays and wax paper. Looks a little odd but then we started eating and it was fantastic! There's plenty of places to sit outside if you want right on the water. The night we were there a guitar player was entertaining on the screened in patio. Great place for a good meal and a few beers.

Oh my gosh, I can still taste the delicious pulled pork. This is a joint, so don't expect any fancy schmancy restaurant; just fine great food and value. Walked in and was told 2 choices on the menu-pulled pork or brisket. Ok...it made my choice that much easier. The pulled pork sandwich was so good and tasty. The cole slaw was delicious and fresh. Save room for the cheesecake. I'm not kidding...save room. The cheesecake is NY style and as delicious and fluffy as it comes...and, he doesn't charge a lot. The cheesecake is $3, underpriced I predict. My parents had the brisket, and good too. Make this a stop on your trip.

Delicious BBQ and a great view of the river. My mother and I had the bbq ribs, beans, yams, buttered corn, corn bread, and last but not least ebony & ivory cheesecake. The ribs were amazing.... smokey and juicy. The beans were full of flavor and bits of tender meat made it even better. The yams were yummy, a little heavy on the cinnamon or nutmeg, but I still ate every last bit. I guess I was expecting the corn to be more like corn on the cob with salt and butter, with plump kernels and not the buttered corn with seasoning( not too sure what kind). Not bad, but for me I like the plain corn on the cob to go with my bbq. I wanted to try the red velvet cheesecake, but they were out so I had the ebony & ivory cheesecake (chocolate mousse & mini choco chips & cheesecake). It was delicious just like the rest of my food. The service was great, quick, and really friendly. The place was very clean and they even provide a wash up sink outside on their screened porch to wash up. Beautiful view of the river & it's even next to an archeological site of a plantation, which is pretty cool to look at. I will be back very soon and I'm going to try to sneak their food on the plane to take it back to my boyfriend (that is if I don't eat it first). My only complaint is that I wish the sides were a little bit bigger because they are so yummy.

Delicious! I would give Captain's BBQ 10 stars if possible. The food is amazing and the location is spectacular. This is a must for anyone who loves pulled pork with homemade BBQ sauce. The staff was friendly and helpful and the tables are super clean. Plus lots of napkins for the juicy sandwiches.

We are from Texas and love good bbq. It's been hard finding any down here in Florida. Captains is a hands-down winner! Very friendly staff and the food was good. Good quality meat. I got a side of their beans and they were wonderful!! Will be going back for sure.

The BEST barbeque we've ever had! Eating at Captain's is a must whenever we are in the area. Love the fish camp feel. Our favorite seat is around the tree where we get a view of the pit! We've had brisket, ribs and pulled pork and loved them all!

Had lunch on the way back up A1A from the morning in Flagler Beach. Saw the billboard south and our first impression was the billboard looked nicer than the restaurant. This is truly a hidden gem. Adjacent to Bing's Landing park, we will be back in cooler weather to sit outside and take in the view. I had two meats, moist brisket and pulled pork. Chose baked beans and cheese grits for sides. She had 3 ribs and the same sides. Everything was delish! Don't go here for ambiance. This is a bait and tackle business as well as a BBQ joint. Very clean place and friendly staff. Give it a shot then check out Bing's Landing and Washington Oaks State Park.

Arrived by boat and decided to try this no frills eatery. What a meal! My husband said his St Louis ribs were the best he ever had. And trust me, he would know! My pulled pork sandwich was second to none! Clean, friendly, and very reasonably priced! Can not wait to try his award winning home baked cheese cake. Wonder if he would consider moving to Chicago!

  • terry r.

Yup, this stuff was really good! Not only is it a great location, but the food was spot on. Loved the ribs, cornbread, cole slaw (not too sweet, just the right blend of vinegar and mayo, fall off the bone chicken. Glad we found this place. Stopped on my way back to West Coast in Kansas City and went to one of their "famous" bbq places and it was awful....so I'll go back to Capt. D's any ol' time and be happy.

Very good BBQ. Mac and cheese was less tasty. Great beer selection.

    (4)
  • Jason D.

Definitely not much to look at here but the food is great! I got the pulled pork with baked beans and cole slaw. All of it was fantastic. My only knock on the place is that I usually favor Carolina style sauce, and theirs just seemed a bit weak for my liking. Fortunately they had several other styles of sauce that were well above average - I'd recommend the mustard or sweet BBQ!

    (5)
  • Kim W.

Awesomely good food. Get there early as they run out fast. I had a brisket sandwich and it was full of thick juicy chunks of meat. My husband had chicken and ribs and he raved about it. It's a rustic atmosphere. Seating inside, outside or on a screened porch. Highly recommended.

Hidden Gem. Located in Bings Landing, Captains BBQ is quite a find. I stopped there with some friends on our way to the beach. Superb. Food: I had the ribs and pulled pork. The St. Louis style ribs we delicate and the meat just fell of the bone, excellent rub which was only made better by the sauces. Next on the hit parade was the pulled pork another winner (usually pulled pork worries me as often becomes dry) it was a good cut of pork and the mustard barbecue sauce was great. I nibbled a little of my wife's brisket which was tender and moist. The biggest surprise for me was also how good the smoked turkey was, not a thing I would usually order, but I will be back for all of it. They have dessert, while I was too stuffed to try, the cheesecake one a award. BBQ and cheesecake it works. Location: the place is hidden away in a park. There is an attached deck where you can watch the boats come and go, simply perfect. Service: prompt quick service. The owner Mike was there running the front. He was very personable and dealt well with lunch crowd. Price: inexpensive

fantastic! had the salad with pulled pork. very generous amount of tasty pork on top of mixed greens. ate every morsel. was reluctant to order salad at a bbq place, but was pleasantly surprised. husband had pulled pork sandwich, collard greens and coleslaw. all were excellent. especially liked the soft bun. only wish the sauces were not all sweet. cheesecake best ever! going back tomorrow for the carrot cake.

  • Edward J.

Pretty good BBQ. Portions are good, sauces are good. The beans are great, so is the slaw. The place is right next to a park on the intercoastal so its real scenic. Probably the best BBQ in the Palm Coast area. I thought the brisket was a little on the dry side, but still very good. The Mac and cheese was not happening. Decent bottled beer selection and fancy sodas. Order up front and sit. They call your name on the PA. Get take out and make a picnic out of it in the adjacent park.

  • Rob L.

I've had barbecue everywhere from Maine to Arizona, and this rivals anything anywhere. The place looks a little primitive when you pull in the sand parking lot, but if the presence of every high-end car known to man doesn't tip you off to what you're about to experience, the aroma of yumminess emanating from the shack will when you exit your vehicle. From the superbly smoked ribs to the [downright amazing] barbecue baked beans, the food here is the real deal. We fed eight hungry people for $130 and took home two pounds of food. Any penalty assessed for the lack of formality here at Captain's is summarily dismissed by the amazing food. This is a "don't miss" stop in Palm Coast.

This place is the shit! Great food - i love the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. And the cheesecake is INSANE. They also have beautiful views, a peaceful setting, friendly staff, plenty of parking, and indoor/outdoor dining. Wifi is very fast here.

I choose Captains BBQ catering for a Christmas Party I had at the Hammock Beach Resort due to their Yelp Reviews. I had stopped by ahead and made the food reservation and was very pleased that the restaurant was able to accommodate my needs. The portions were generous and as we chose the Brisket which was tender and the turkey which was gobbled so quick I didn't get any and of course the Ribs which where a favorite. We had Coleslaw and Macaroni and Cheese for our sides. I loved the Cole slaw! Together, the service and the meal made for a wonderful dining experience. We'd happily come back.

I had expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews. If you are a BBQ connoisseur (like we are) you will think this restaurant is just forgettable. Location was great and the service good. The owners (at least they acted like they were the owners) were very nice. We ordered the brisket and ribs plates with BBQ beans and coleslaw in one and potato salad and buttered corn on the second plate. The ribs were delicious but the brisket was too fatty and overcooked. All the sides were ok. My husband liked the BBQ beans and coleslaw. The potato salad had dill and I am not a fan of it, so maybe I am biased. I think that overall, we were a little disappointed because we eat BBQ everywhere we go (Kansas City, NC, SC, GA, and Texas) and maybe we are spoiled.

This is by far my favorite barbecue joint in all of Florida. You can't beat the view! Try the dessert if you get a chance they often run out of it. I highly recommend it.

Excellent!!! Fast friendly service. Pulled pork and ribs were fabulous. Collards and beans were delicious!!!! If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping. Based on other reviews we got a piece of red velvet cheesecake to go. Worth the drive from Virginia!!

This is a great place to stop for a bite when you are beachside. I love the laid back and casual atmosphere. Order a plate and sit outside to watch the boats go by. The beef brisket is amazing and the NY cheese cake is the best I have found around.

Ribs were great... top layer tastes like pure sugar. Tender beef brisket, just the right amount of fat Eat on the porch and look over the river/intercoastal.

Awesome, Ribs were nice and sweet and the pulled pork sandwich was awesome. They have the best baked beans, I love them. Just a great experience. I would eat here if the view was of a slaughterhoise but you have lovely water views and you can sit in a screened in porch, inside or outside if you like. Highly recommend as it is better than best BBq I've had in Texas!

Oh my, if you are looking for something other than seafood while in the area this is a must. Went two nights during the week we were in town. The whole selection of meats are great. I tried ever meat which is why we went two nights. Excellent smoked flavor. Ribs and brisket were some of the best I've ever had. Extremely tender. The beans and pasta salad were amazing. If I ever come back to the area this will be the one place I'll come back to eat.

Others in my party liked their food, but I was not too happy. I got the brisket which I thought was going to come out in slices, but mine looked shredded almost like pulled pork. It needed salt and some other flavorings on the rub. I had to use some of the house made BBQ sauce to get some flavor on there. When I make brisket, I prefer to not use sauce as it already tastes moist, tender, and flavorful; not the part I got. The beans were the best thing I had. Very good with some smoky flavor along with some brown sugar sweetness. Chunks of meat were thrown in there as well which I liked. The potato salad needed some serious salt. That could have really tied the flavors in there together (all individuals in my party agreed with salt being added to enhance some flavors). The cole slaw was "dynamite" from what others in my party said. I did not try it. We went back to Bings Landing to grill out in the park a few nights later which I suggest if you like to grill/BBQ your own food. We went to Captains BBQ to get some sides: cole slaw, beans, and some cucumber/vinegar/mayo dish. The slaw and beans were great, but the cucumber side was very watery and very dull in flavor. I felt like it really needed salt and less liquid/water in the recipe. It was almost like soup. The atmosphere is great at this place! Love to people watch at the boat launch, park, and bait shop!

Best smoked brisket ever. Lean, tender, moist. The collard greens were the best I've ever eaten. Great beet salad. Wish I'd gotten extra to take home. The food was ready before we decided where to sit, which was the porch. Great cheesecake for dessert. Fun selecting a beer from huge variety. Enjoyed watching a guy cast a net on the dock while we ate. Avoid the mac & cheese. The ladies room was sparkling clean. My boss told me once, "if you want to know how clean a kitchen is, check the restrooms"

For the area, this is so-so BBQ. Not great, not terrible, just adequate. For true BBQ you'll need to travel away from East Central Florida. But other than Sonny's or Woody's, this is all we've got. We ordered 2 combo platters. Choosing ribs, sausage, pulled pork, and brisket as our meat choices. Coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, beans, and cornbread were added for authenticity. Sauce should be an afterthought, and not necessary. I found the majority of the meat lacking in flavor without adding run-of-the mill sauces. The rub was bland and not properly coated. Leading me to believe that Captain's popularity is causing shortcuts in the food prep. The sauce, however, did make up for the bland tasting meats. Heck, anyone can smoke meat at home and slather it with sauce to make it better. The brisket was chewy with no visible bark. They had a slightly re-heated texture. Quite dry, little moisture. Minimal smoke flavor. Very bland. The ribs came slathered in sauce. Really? Who serves ribs already sauced? I want to see my ribs and taste them before I determine if it needs any sauce. Because of the sauce whatever flavor from the rub was gone. No bark. Ahhh, now we tackle the pulled pork. Or should I say pork chunks smothered in sauce? Proper pulled pork is served just pulled off the pig, no sauce other then the rub used to smoke it. The pork was tender and cooked properly. The copious amounts of sauce hid any pork taste. Sausage? Nope, it's Kielbasa. I'm still confused why any self-respecting BBQ joint would serve a Polish sausage. Very bland tasting. No smoke flavor. It would have been better with sauerkraut and beer. The macaroni and cheese was lifeless and tasteless, although it looked appetizing. Very disappointing. The beans seemed like a variation of Ranch style beans and Boston baked beans. Although there was leftover BBQ meat in the beans, I could detect no BBQ or smoke flavor. Another bland offering. They were so thick you could spread them on your cornbread. The cornbread was a mix straight from a box or food service container. Very dry, lukewarm, and disappointing. Butter couldn't even save these muffins. With all the glowing reviews about Captain's I was quite disappointed. I really wanted to experience some decent BBQ which is hard to find in this part of Florida. While they might have been good in the beginning, I think their success has made them take shortcuts.

A perfect 5 stars for a great experience. From the food to the service, view, and cleanliness Captains BBQ has it all. It's nestled back off the road next to a park and on the Matanzas River where you can watch people launch their boats and check out the historical plantation remains. All the employees were very friendly and served with a smile. The blues music played in the background was the perfect touch and at the perfect volume. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich served on toasted white bread with coleslaw on the side while my friend got the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad. Both were amazing! The meat was tender and seasoned just right. The honey BBQ sauce on top made it even better. The coleslaw wasn't drenched in mayo and the potato salad was spruced up with fresh herbs. We both left pleased and satisfied and yearning for another visit.

The best BBQ I've ever had, period. This is a great place of you live BBQ - brisket, pulled pork, turkey, homemade sausage, and more. The sides are also great - the baked beans are the best I've ever had. They also have an outstanding selection of homemade cheesecakes - one of the owners is from New York and his family business there was supplying desserts to the high-end restaurants in NY. The cheesecake is a total surprise - you'd never expect it at a BBQ place. The interior is basic, but clean. Metal chairs , simple tables, no waiter or waitress. You order at the counter and pickup you mr order in the window when it's ready. Excellent for takeout - call in your order and take it with you for a beach or pool picnic. They have an awesome craft beer selection - no bar but the beers are a wide variety. Great sweet tea, too. If you plan on coming during the busy season I recommend you call your order in - waits can be 30 minutes or more during peak traffic. Highly recommended.

The food was very good and the service was awesome. The cashier was very friendly and the manager, Jim, was very attentive and made sure that we were happy with our meal. The ribs and baked beans were excellent! We'll be coming back tomorrow!

Amazing. Probably the best BBQ I've had. The location is nice and you can even eat in the nearby park. I would definitely recommend this place!

I give this place five stars because the BBQ is truly as good as I have ever had. The ribs are well seasoned and I did not bother to add any of the available sauces. There are great sides. I recommend the beet salad with feta cheese and dill. I have had their cheesecake in the past and it was very good. I gave it 5stars for the food and the staff's friendliness. But please remember, this is a very good restaurant at a waterfront park next to a boat ramp. It lacks 5star restaurant service and ambiance. Just relax and enjoy excellent and inspired food.

Wonderful BBQ aroma as you approach the restaurant. Very casual dining. You put your order in at the counter and then pick it up at the window. Super speedy though! It was sweltering inside (I presume because of all the great BBQ going on inside, but it was lovely on the screened patio, overlooking the water). Ribs and brisket were awesome. Mac 'n cheese, was only so so, but the mashed yams were great, very smokey. Rave reviews on the collard greens, if you are a fan of greens. Dessert of lemon coconut cheesecake was scrumptious (if a bit pricey, although that didn't stop us from ordering two pieces .... sharing something that good just didn't cut it!)!

I have been struggling with preparing for this review after reading all the five star reviews here and it was the five star reviews that convinced me to drive almost 60 miles to enjoy this BBQ and I figured it was close enough to St. Augustine that we'd make a day of it. We arrived mid afternoon about 2:30 PM there were a few people inside eating and when I parked and I saw the old style charcoal pit smoking out front I was drooling with anticipation. The place is in one of the most beautiful settings in a park next to the river off of A1A and it's a beautiful little restaurant with a screened in porch attached it's very clean and inviting staffed with the most friendly folks. Now if you read my past reviews on BBQ I do have some pretty high standards and I feel I know what Okay BBQ is and I know what Good BBQ is and I know what Great BBQ is. I have traveled around the world and I've eaten lots of BBQ from Texas to Kansas City to North Carolina and across the pond in Europe ( yes they have some great BBQ across the pond). My experience today was not okay, good or great it was extremely disappointing. It could have been the time of day or lunch leftovers but it certainly wasn't fresh off the pit. Please disagree if you must but there is nothing around them to compare it too so I will assume it's the best the area has to offer. It's nothing I would rate 5 stars and as much as I wanted to love it I can't be anything but honest this was not a good experience we left with half our food uneaten. Now on to the food: - Beef Brisket - Sliced 3/8" thick wet, no bark, no smoke ring and not very tender actually tough. I think it was rushed and wasn't allowed to finish cooking it was very lean and the portion was good. - Pork Ribs - St. Louis cut very thin, lean but very little bark no smoke ring they were falling off the bone tender but I feel they were either sitting in a bath or steamed to keep them moist they definitely were not fresh off the pit. I also did not like the sauce that they came drenched in when you offer sauces on the table either serve them dry rubbed or ask which sauce the customer likes assuming everyone like the sauce you brush on them is a big mistake. - Turkey - Sliced paper thin off a mechanical slicer as thin as lunch meat absolutely no flavor, no smoke I can't believe this ever was on a pit it was no different in my opinion than healthy choice packaged turkey. - Mac n Cheese - If this is homemade it is definitely process cheese very bland and flavorless. - Collard Greens - I loved them tender and flavorful they were cooked perfectly if you eat here this is a great side choice. - Corn Muffins - Wet and and under cooked they needed more time in the oven it appeared they had been reheated in a microwave. - Louisiana Style Sauce - In my opinion this was the best sauce not bad. - Sweet Style Sauce - Heavy cinnamon flavor none of us liked it it had a lingering after taste. - Vinegar Style Sauce - Tried to use it but it would not come out of the bottle. I am sorry for the 2 star rating but this was not a good experience today hopefully it was just a bad day I don't think I could return.

There are three bbq establishments in Palm Coast and two of them are chains. Not this one! Now, I'm not a bbq connoisseur, but if you're craving some barbecue, try Captain's BBQ at Bing's Landing. Captains can easily be missed on North Oceanshore Boulevard if you're driving faster than the posted speed limit, but if your windows are open and you're near Bing's Landing (or if you happen to be on a boat on the Matanzas River at 29.615°N 81.205°), you'll smell the BBQ so slow down and stop in for some barbecue goodness. We ordered a full rack (12) of their smoked St. Louis ribs and 6 pieces of their sweet corn bread to go. They had 4 sauces from which to choose (hot, sweet, honey mustard, and a vinegar-based sauce). On the short drive home, the car immediately turned into a wood burning smoker - the ribs smelled sooo good! And they tasted even better - sweet and smoky even without the sauce. Captains has easily become our family's fave barbecue restaurant in Palm Coast (again, there are only 3 of them!). I'll come back because I want to taste the rest of what's on their menu. Go visit this hidden BBQ gem in Palm Coast.

Best smoked turkey sandwich ever! They do have really good food. Don't know how they convinced the county to allow all that parking in the park area, and I hope they don't let the boat ramp be used for parking boats for the restaurant, either. It started with the renting of the place for a bait and tackle shop, but the bbq is a gold mine, and the bait and tackle has been shoved aside. It is a pain to try and buy bait shrimp when there is a long line of people ordering food. They keep taking orders, and leave the fishermen by the wayside.

Good stuff! Had the triple sliders... brisket, smoked turkey, and pulled pork. The pulled pork with the Carolina vinegar sauce took me straight back to my childhood. I'll be back for the great food and the sunset views!

Great place. Located next to a boat landing, there is a great view of the intercoastal. We were visiting jacksonville fl from out of state when we heard about this place. Drove an hour south and had a wonderful meal. I had ribs, my wife had chicken. Mac and cheese was tasty and cheesey, while the beans almost had a brunswick stew consistancy and taste. Had thes cheese cake for dessert. Well proced, with good size portions.

Well. Well, well, well. Who'd a thunk it? SUPER HAPPY BBQ DELICIOUSNESS! The pulled pork is a delight. But the ribs! Oh, THE RIBS! Heaven. Very good cole slaw. Skip the cucumber salad, it's fairly tasteless. I mean, I can SEE that there's dill in it...but I can't taste it. Potato salad was excellent. Collard greens were delish, as were the mashed sweet potatoes. The outdoor screened patio is lovely, and if you're lucky, you might see a manatee. But truly, if you're eating Captains BBQ...you're lucky enough!

Coming from Texas and spending a lot of time eating BBQ all over north and central Texas, I had little hope of getting good BBQ from a place on the Atlantic coast of Florida, I was wrong. Got the combo plate with ribs and sausage. When plate was ready, they threw some brisket on the side for me to try. Pork ribs were tender and had a great flavor, sausage was some of the best I have had, even better than the Czech made Texas hill country sausage. The brisket was melt in your mouth and had a nice smoke ring. All were complimented by a spicy BBQ sauce, one of 3 varieties available. Service was top notch and the view was perfect. Sit inside in the AC or take it out on the screened in porch for some great tree shaded water views. And don't forget the dessert. This is not your typical BBQ dessert! We took home a strawberry and a red velvet cheesecake that was some of the best cheesecake I have ever put in my mouth! The whole family shared the same experience. Worth even a quick drop in for dessert from the refrigerated case by the front door. Don't miss out on this Florida BBQ home run!

Great barbecue in an unassuming location. My absolute favorite is the 1/2 chicken. Done perfectly, no sauce is really needed. My wife favors the smoked turkey sandwich, which is also smoked perfectly. Tender, moist, extremely flavorful. We have a condo close by, and frequent Captains for great take out. Prices are very reasonable, ribs are great also, but better get there early as they are a very popular item and they sell out frequently. If you are in the area, Captains is worth a try. You will be back, but leave some greens for us!

I'll just keep this simple. If you live within 100 miles of this place, and you don't eat here once a month, that's criminal. Just awesome Q. Can't wait until my next chance to visit.

Found this on Yelp. It was a great choice for seven hungry guys. The ribs, prime rib, brisket, and smoked turkey were excellent. The beet salad garnished with feta cheese was exceptional. The sweet tea has just enough sugar to taste great and still be healthier for you than the chemistry lab sweeteners. It's also a waterfront location which adds more character. This is only ten minutes from I95. I highly recommend it for people facing hunger pangs on the highway.

My husband randomly stumbled across this place when searching for a live bait tackle shop. The inside is a mix of a restaurant and convenience store with live bait (we bought shrimp) a large collection of bottled beer, lures and coozies. It's very clean - including the bathrooms - and the staff are extremely kind and helpful. We got the combo platter with pulled pork, beef brisket, baked beans, mac and cheese and cornbread. It was all delicious. The meat was tasty on its own, tender and juicy. The beans were more like a chili, not in a bad way, though it had more onion than I expected. The Mac and cheese was crazy cheesy, just as a southern dish should be and the cornbread was good too. The mustard, spicy and Louisiana BBQ sauces were our favorite, try mixing them for surprising flavor combos. We sat on the back porch. It's screened in with a gorgeous view of the river dock and massive trees. It's the quintessential southern BBQ joint. Definitely try this place out.

The location is great, there's a park next to the restraint, and it has a nice view but the food is mediocre at best. The pork BBQ was good but the chicken has no flavor and the kielbasa sausage wasn't very good. The potato salad and mac & cheese were also flavorless, while the collard greens tasted like pure vinegar. I'm not sure how the reviews are so good but I won't ever eat here again.

Great location at Bing's Landing on the ICW if your on the water. A1A if by car. Try the Captain's combo and a beer. Great selection of craft beers on hand. Cash and cards accepted.

This would be the the dictionary entry for "Hidden Gem" if it wasn't so popular and known. Tucked away on the west side of A1A, along the Intercoastal, it's a fish camp shack that happens to serve some of the most incredible barbecue and deserts in Florida. You order at the counter and serve yourself, but that doesn't mean friendly service doesn't abound. To really take advantage of the location dock your boat or at the very least try to get an outside seat. When it's all over, walk it off at the park and historical site next door. Worth a drive from Jacksonville, Orlando or any other surronding area!

Really good bar b que, bait and tackle shop, fridge full of cold beer. After a hard morning fishing it was a perfect lunch carry out option and at $100 for 9 people a good deal too. Brisket was pretty good, pulled pork was awesome. Hopefully will be able to convince everyone to eat there again before vacation is over. And the local law enforcement officers were there enjoying a good lunch too. Always a good sign when you're in unfamiliar territory. 3 stars for food, 1 for atmosphere, 1 for location. And the people were nice!

Just had the best bbq I've ever had...(and I'm not a big fan of bbq) but my husband is...this place made me a huge fan...can't wait to come back...we also walked in with a group of 18 and the food/service was fast and accurate and I'm planning on emailing (or any social media) Guy Fiery from dinner drive-in and dives to check it out!!! :)))

This is the best bbq place around. As a Texan, I've had my share of great bbq. Captains is the only place I actually enjoy eating the bbq from. The pork has been the best item on the menu, and the sides are great as well. The brisket is lacking the tenderness I prefer the couple times I've tried it. We put our boat in at Bings a lot and this is a convenient stop to eat or even get it to go and eat on the water.

First time there. Truly one of the best values in the area. Brandin and Nikki exemplified the happy, friendly and hard working staff. Smoking with oak gives the meat a different and drier earthy taste which is refreshing and welcome. The ribs are some of the best I've ever had, and the sides are fabulous. The baked beans and the coleslaw were tonight's standouts. Next trip, which might be tomorrow, the Brisket Ruben and collard greens are up next. Great views and an open family friendly dining area just add to the great vibe, and the excellent bottle beer selection is the bonus. They will also stay open past posted hours if the restaurant is busy. Don't be afraid to call after hours for a to go order.

I'm not sure what the hype is all about here,it is a nice location and they have a very friendly staff and good beer selection, but I found the food to be below average. We got three meat platter, the ribs were tuff, the brisket and pulled pork tasted like it sat in a crock pot all day,it was chewy tasteless and dry and the bbq sauce was bland, the cornbread was so dry that it crumbled apart when u picked it up,the cole slaw wasn't bad though.Maybe I hit it on a bad day because I keep hearing great things about this place,I may give it another try in the future.

We love coming here when we're in town. Great food. Large portions, great atmosphere, and service. Lines might be long but don't leave, it's fast and worth the wait. The ribs fall off the bones, brisket is tender and they have great sauces. I recommend no sauce on the ribs. The cheesecake is worth taking home. I can't ever eat it there, I'm too full. When your done you need to check out Bings landing next door.

I have been here 3 times now, and am happy as a clam every time! Love the smoked turkey. Brisket is great too. Not a fan of the pulled pork, but that's just me. My husband loves it. The outdoor seating is covered and screened and overlooks the lake. There's a clean up sink outside, too. Nice. Excellent lunch place.

A little bit of old Florida is the background for this really tasty BBQ. The food was very good and the cheese cake even better. Don't expect to be served---- it's a kind of self serve place. Place order at the counter and pick up when name is called. Get your own drinks and desserts---- tip yourself 20 percent or get more cheese cake!!!!! Well worth the trip to captains!!!!!

  • Al F.

Sssoooooo good. Get the St. Louis ribs 5 rib platter but you better be hungry. They are BUG! Sides are awesome. Mac salad good. Corn was fantastic with a smoky flavor. Potato salad was a bit "dilly" for my taste but the kids ate it up( I don't like pickles ). All in all will come back for sure!!!

  • Niko M.

OUTSTANDING! A little out of the way but definitely worth it. I had the Trios Sliders which were 1 each of Pulled Pork, Brisket, Turkey with a side of mac & cheese and corn bread. If it was closer, we probably would have gone back 3 more times! Right on the water and if need be, you can purchase your bait & tackle there! Met the owner - great guy - showed us the King of all BBQ's. It was a monster!

8 out of 8 for this gr8 bbq establishment. Mean pulled pork and the spicy bbq sauce was spicier than my pepsi! This place is the most hip hoppin place in Palm Coast, Florida.

The building, itself, for this restaurant does not look like much but houses some excellent barbecue. Definitely not what I was expecting from a beach town. Pulled pork sandwich had great smokey flavor and was tender. Would have been good without any sauce but Captain's offered a nice selection of four different sauces. On second visit, had brisket which was equally as delicious. Had very good and creamy macaroni and cheese. Tasty but portion size was small for the money. Soft drink and beer bottles were located in a front cooler - not very cold but just a minor inconvenience. Nice view from back porch tables with restaurant backing up to Bings Landing. Overall great experience(s). Would have given five stars if they had a fryer (offer french fries), had larger sides available, and turned up cooler temperature.

Bbq brisket for me was amazing. Bbq ribs and pulled pork for other adults. They loved it. Pork quesaillas for the kids was well received. One huge problem was that they had several large party orders that they did not tell us about when we ordered. So while we placed our order and watch some people in front of us get their meals and eat and leave we still do not have our food. It was over an hour until we actually got our meals. The manager walked around to a couple of people that we're still waiting like us and he gave them free drinks and things. When he got to us we had a party of 6 and he did not offer us anything except his apologies and a brief explanation that they were catching up and we have our food soon. It would have been a nice touch for him to get us a round of drinks like he had done for others. Or perhaps a small discount for our inconvenience. The food however was absolutely amazing.

This has got to be one of the best BBQ joints I've ever been to! The pulled pork sandwich is large enough that you have to get serious to finish those last two bites and that's when this sandwich gets even better. The bun absorbs the BBQ sauce yet holds together until completion. I soak the meat with their thinnest BBQ sauce then pick one of the thicker "models" for added zest. Put that coleslaw on top of your meat then close that sandwich and prepare to taste an incredible BBQ experience. YUM!

We arrived right at closing time last Saturday night with carloads of lacrosse players from a tourney in Palm coast. The crew at captains stayed open late and served us some great BBQ. We had ribs, brisket, pulled pork and several sides. Great Mac n cheese and slaw. Nice variety of sauces. Go out on the porch for a relaxing view of the intracoastal. We will be back.
